Yoga mats are the floors of our practice. Along with being drenched in sweat after a hot yoga session and being rolled away till the next practice, the mat becomes the perfect breeding home to millions of bacteria and germs. Almost every part of our body makes contact with the mat, but mostly our hands and feet. From the mat, to our feet, to our hands, to touching our face- we make contact with everything that touches the bottom of our feet. To prevent the transfer of athletes foot, yeast, MRSA, and other bacteria, it is important the mat gets a proper cleaning after every use, not only when in the studio.
Here is an easy DIY Mat Spray that will leave your mat refreshed and clean.
What you need:
-1 Spray Bottle
-3/4 Cup Distilled Water
-1/2 Cup Witch Hazel
-15 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil- Natural antibacterial, antiseptic, antifungal, antiviral, anti-acne properties
-10 Drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil- Natural antibacterial, antiseptic properties, and serves as a decongestant
What you need to do:
1. Combine all materials. You can mix and match essential oils that fit your scent buds.
2. Spray liberally over mat.
3. Wipe with cloth.
4. Let mat air-dry.
By giving your mat a little extra love with this refreshing antibacterial scent, it will lengthen mat lifetime and provide a stimulating lingering aroma before ever practice.
